REQUEST FOR APPLICATIONS
This is a request for Post-Doctoral Award Applications

Introduction
The Post-Doctoral Award enables highly qualified doctoral graduates who are undertaking original research to prepare for careers as independent investigators in areas of interest to The Centre. The award consists of a stipend and an accountable research allowance.

Research Questions
Applicants with projects that address outcomes for children and/or families are encouraged to apply. All applications must be relevant to one of The Centre’s areas of interest. The areas of interest include:

  • Early childhood development
  • Middle childhood and youth wellbeing
  • Family capacity building
  • Community capacity building
  • Tracking long-term outcomes

Please note that this competition does NOT require a Letter of Intent.

Note: All proposals must include a description of how linkage to policy and decision makers, community partners and researchers will be made and maintained.

Additional Information
Post-Doctoral Award recipients will supplement their training through an involvement with The Centre's Knowledge Mobilization (KM) team. This involvement will include the development of a KM strategy to support a linkage with relevant policy stakeholders. In addition, Post-Doctoral Award recipients will be invited and encouraged to attend one Research Advisory Committee meeting annually for the duration of the award. This is intended to further support training as a researcher and to allow for additional policy linkages to be developed. A total time commitment of 2-5 days annually is requested by the Post-Doctoral Award recipient to participate in these activities.

Timeline
Post-Doctoral Award applications are due February 10th 2010 by 4:00 p.m. MST.  Late applications will not be considered. Results will be announced in April 2010.

Budget
Post-Doctoral Awards are available up to $100,000. The recipient may allocate up to $80,000 as a stipend ($40,000 per year for two years.)

CALL FOR PROPOSALS
Childhood:  A Journey of Change

The fifth biennial Alberta Early Years conference will look at childhood and the journey of change it represents to children and their families. Research demonstrates that early supports to families with young children are vital to children’s health and development. This conference will examine best practice, research and application of strategies in the area of early child development.

WHEN:  October 4, 5, 6, 2010

WHERE:  Marriott at River Cree Resort, Enoch , Alberta (a 4 star hotel and conference centre 5 minutes from Edmonton, Alberta's West Edmonton Mall)

AUDIENCE:  This conference will be of interest to practitioners and professionals who support the development of children at-risk and with varied abilities from the age of birth to six years.
SPEAKERS:  A multi-disciplinary group of presenters and keynote speakers will look at this journey of change and how to support children and their families.
EXHIBITORS:   Non-profit, commercial and corporate organizations wishing to have a display booth are invited to contact the conference organizers.  Exhibit space is limited and is provided on a first-come, first-service basis.  A fee is charged.
